NEW Camping Spot around Bogor: Camping Ground Gunung Sebelah, Sukawangi

Are you looking for an amazing camping spot close to Jakarta, but you don’t want to deal with the crazy weekend traffic around Bogor city and Puncak road?

I found the perfect spot for you: Camping Ground Gunung Sebelah in Sukawangi

It’s a new camping ground and was just opened around 3 months ago. We went there on the weekend before Chinese New Year and were very surprised to have the whole place to ourselves – a  dream for me.

How to get there?

If you’re starting your trip in Jakarta you can get there via Cibadak or Jonggol. Just follow the signage to Nirvana Valley Resort and continue for around 10 more minutes. You’re in for a treat. The road passes through little villages surrounded by stunning rice terraces high up into the hills. I was honestly surprised that this area is not a lot more touristy considering the amazing scenery it has to offer.

Google Map shows the correct location here, but it’s a little confusing to find the access road. Pass the large Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) on your right side and then turn right after the soccer field. You’re almost there.

Turn right onto this dirt road next to the soccer field.

The campground

The campground is situated on a hill, and it has jaw-dropping views over the surrounding area from its top. Depending on the weather you can choose to camp on the ledge of the hill or a bit further down. It covers 3 hectares of land and offers many terraces for tents as well as larger areas for campervans. The toilets are clean and well-taken care of. The campground also offers power stations to plug in your devices.

Terraces for tents on the side of the hill.

Car access

We had a great weekend relaxing at this campground. It’s a peaceful spot and I could not get enough of the stunning view. I recommend anyone to check it out when you are craving for a weekend getaway in nature without the crowds.

A while back I went on a scooter trip around this same area. Check it out here if you want to know more about the route and interesting places to explore.
